We were just winding down for the evening at home when my wife received a text and started freaking out. "Honey! Rhett & Link want to meet you!"
My family and I have been fans of "Good Mythical Morning" (Rhett & Link's primary YouTube channel) for years, so I was familiar with the names. Ever the skeptic, I proceeded with caution as I asked her what she was talking about. It turns out that the text was from a friend who happen to be watching a video from Rhett & Link's "Good Mythical More" channel, which features stuff they do AFTER "Good Mythical Morning". In this particular episode, the guys were playing a game... Electronic Battleship. Over the course of the video, Rhett & Link repeatedly compliment and comment on one of the voice overs featured on the game. They talk about how they'd like to meet the voice over guy... they assume he's from Ohio for some reason... they want to take him out for a night on the town, and they even urge the voice over guy to Tweet them. The trouble is, no one on Rhett & Link's staff can figure out who the voice guy is. Well, my wife's friend recognizes the voice...IT'S ME! It's a job I had done several years ago around the time when the Battleship film was released. So she sends a text to my wife with a link to the video and we, as a family proceed to watch it... and we all geek out extensively! My kids start telling their friends about it. We post it on Facebook and Twitter. We think about how fun it would be to have a chance to meet these guys... and then, we suddenly realize a small problem... the video was posted about 6 months ago! My daughter begins to search through the comments and notices that several people claim that THEY are the voice. Oh, the humanity! We begin to realize that this is likely old news to Rhett & Link, and that any interest that they had in getting together with me that lasted beyond filming that episode is probably long-since forgotten. Even if nothing comes of it besides being cool by association for a day... that's enough. :) So, will Rhett & Link even see the tweet I sent them... or the Facebook message... or the email? Does their invitation still stand? Stay tuned...
